July 12th, 2018, the jury review of “Planning and Design for Beautiful Hebei——Q City Plan · Qinhuangdao International Student Design Competition” International Design Competition was successfully held in Qinhuangdao. Renowned architects and urban planners were invited as jury members, and after several rounds of review, the final result of this international design competition were ushered.

WANG Jingwen, a current student of School of Architecture, Chang'an University won the first prize with her work “Online Delicacy——Market Architecture Renovation Based on the Internet of Things”.

Q City Plan · Qinhuangdao International Student Design Competition attracted more than 700 groups of participants from all over the world to enroll in. Among them 34 works were selected by the Jury committee to enter the final winners list, including 1 First Prize, 4 Second Prizes, 10 Third prizes and 19 Honorable Mentions.

“Q City Plan · Qinhuangdao International Student Design Competition” is a way to make the public space more intriguing through directly intervening in the specific built environments instead of huge landscape axis, large scale landscape nodes, to complement the insufficient research and design on micro spaces in cities. It is regarded as an “acupuncture” attempt, inserting needles into the body of one city on certain points to heal and invigorate it with a small-scale intervention.

ZHANG Yuxing, the executive chairman of this competition underlined the value of “futuristics” of the first prize work along with its professionalism, its advantages on the presentation, and its potential to be implemented on the site, which highly matched the requirement of feasibility of this competition.

The design base of “Online Delicacy” is located in the Wudaoqiao vegetable market of Qinhuangdao, Hebei province. The vegetable market is supposed to be a tongue in cheek paradise in the city, but its stench and filthy surroundings make people want to stay away from it. Nowadays, the active group of vegetable farms is mainly middle-aged and old people. And what interaction will the young people in the Internet era interact with the renovation of vegetable market buildings?

The gradual rise of e-commerce in the internet era s has led to the gradual loss of a number of “faithful” consumers in the vegetable market. Does this mean that the vegetable market will gradually withdraw from the urban stage? If it dies, is there a problem with the food supply of customers and potential customers within its original service radius? What about its service population?

In order to let the market in the Internet age has become more attractive, this scheme is reformed in architecture design, in the reserve market under the premise of the original function to join the new feature space, and designed a web app auxiliary give full play to its function. To make a full play to the characteristics of Qinhuangdao seafood and food culture, it is designed to attract a large number of tourists and young customers while retaining existing customers and injecting fresh vitality into the vegetable market.

On this basis, it will be built into a new type of vegetable market integrating functions, life, culture, food and leisure, and realize the revival of the vegetable market in the Internet era.
